Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies will have surgery after yet another All-Star season and his first trip to the World Series.

According to Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia on Wednesday, Harper had Tommy John surgery on Wednesday.

According to the story, the procedure went "extremely well," and by mid-May of the following season, he should be able to hit competitively once more.

In 99 games during the regular season last year, Harper amassed 106 hits, 18 home runs, 65 RBIs, a.286 batting average, and a.877 OPS.

He played well for the majority of the postseason and guided the Phillies to the World Series, but in a six-game loss to the Astros, he was limited to just four hits in 20 at-bats.

Harper's imminent absence is already being lamented by Phillies supporters. The fact that they don't play any division opponents until after Harper's anticipated comeback has provided some people some comfort, though.
